I feel obligated to let you all know what I've been up to, although most of the people who care already know. But maybe there's one or two of you who don't!
I've been doing this videoblog thing with Chris. I've been blogging at Behind the Sofa. I've just started a podcast about Doctor Who and Other Science Fiction and Fantasy and Even Some Other Things.
And all of this can be found from my personal site which is, you may recall, tawm.net.
Just so you know, I still lurk and read your entries from time to time. Livejournal's just not my cup of tea anymore. |

Hello, livejournal. It's been a while.
The reason you don't hear from me anymore is because I have so little to say that it usually gets said in 140 characters or less, over on Twitter.
But those of you who really only contact me through lj might be interested to know that videobloggery, the collaborative video project between myself and Chris, is still going strong.
In fact, we just posted two of our strongest videos in a while, both songs. Here they are for your perusal.

And... just as quickly as I arrived, I'm off the MoFo staff again.
In a moment of weakness, I kind of forgot how much I didn't need that. Thanks for talking sense, those that did.
I kind of missed the MoFo, but at the same time I kind of don't want to be there anymore. We need some kind of crazy MoFo refugee support group or something. |

I just had the best conversation on Omegle. If you're not familiar with it, it's a site that allows you to chat with a completely random stranger. There were 4,000 people online when I was using this, and I had the following conversation:
You: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42
Stranger: interesting string of numbers.
Stranger: -thinks- From...lost?
You: YES!
You: First person to get it
Stranger: I only saw season 1, and that was like a year ago.
Stranger: Christ...how do I remember that
You: I have no idea. Impressive, though.
Stranger: So, who
Stranger: are you, good stranger?
You: I'm a big fan. After season one, things get very strange. I happen to be into that
You: I'm a college student in America. And you?
Stranger: likewise. Providence College, up in RI.
You: .... are you serious?
You: This isn't Andrew, is it?
Stranger: ...
You: This is Tom.
At this point, Andrew, who lives down the hall from me, ran over to my door and knocked on it and we erupted into ferocious laughter.
EDIT No joke, several minutes later:
You: The funniest thing just happened to me.
Stranger: Oh? What was it?
Stranger: And is this the funniest thing ever? Or just the funniest thing that's happened to you?

Here's how my life is going.
I still drug myself with caffeine to stay awake at least two or three nights a week, even though deep down I know that I could stay awake without it, and I don't even really want to stay awake. I know that better sleep habits will bring about a better life but I can't get there at the moment.
I'm getting not a lot better and managing my time and attention toward doing the things I know I want and need to do. I'm beginning to realize that I'm in an arena where I can't win, and I'm kind of okay with that, but I know I could be doing better than I am.
I'm completely back to Twitter and I'm completely off of facebook and AIM for the time being. I don't really miss either one of them. I'm not really reading livejournals.
I'm getting better at being mean when I need to be. And I don't feel a lot of guilt about it. I'm also getting meaner when I don't need to be. And I feel a little bit more guilt about that.
The gap between where I am and where I want to be never really gets smaller, nor does it get bigger. The size is roughly constant, but everything else about it seems to change, and I think I can live with that. |

I'm temporarily breaking hiatus because this is important.
I want to strongly encourage anyone who happens to be reading this (and I know there are a couple of you!) to watch the premiere of Dollhouse tomorrow (Friday) on Fox at 9 PM.
Dollhouse can thrive in a Friday night time slot, but it'll only happen if you watch and tell your friends to do the same. That also goes for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a great show that has had some difficulty finding an audience on Monday nights and has been moved to Fridays at 8.
In the meantime, if you have no idea what I'm talking about or you just want to know more, listen to David Bianculli's interview with Joss Whedon on Fresh Air. It's about thirty minutes long, and they talk about Dollhouse and Joss's other work. It's one of the better Joss interviews I've heard/seen/read.
Even if Dollhouse flops and gets the axe, it will live on as a cult show. And then, in five years, when all your friends are watching it on DVD, you can say you were there at the beginning. And you'll be cool. THIS MAY BE YOUR ONLY CHANCE EVER TO BE COOL!!! SRSLY!!!!!
Now, back to hiatus. |
